My opponent and your current Nevada Assemblyman Gregory Hafen has not signed this pledge to oppose all efforts to increase taxes. Why is that? We can do better and send a real Constitutional Conservative to Carson City. You MUST be registered as a Republican during this primary to vote for the necessary change!
We do not have a revenue problem. We have a spending problem in Nevada. Period. Our schools may perform below average, but our "per pupil" allocation of funds is not the reason. Look no further than our neighboring state Utah to see that. They spend way less per student, but the students perform at a higher level in almost every metric. Nevada property taxes are currently higher than nearby states like Colorado. Even Hawaii has a lower property tax rate! Our sales tax is already too high compared to many states as are fuel taxes. I will push for slashing tax rates, and I've already had my pen to paper by signing the 'TAX PAYER PROTECTION PLEDGE' in both 2016 and 2018. I PROMISE never to vote for tax increases or additional tax burdens in Nevada. You have my word. Today I proudly pledge, yet again, that if elected I will NEVER vote or advocate for new or increased taxes on Nevadans. Do you want to see term limits on elected public officials? Does it inspire confidence in you to see Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Mitch McConnell, and others in power for decades on end? How are we ever going to enact term limits for the US Senate and US Congress? Does anyone believe they will vote themselves out of office? Are you aware there is another Constitutional path where individual states can band together (even without the help of New York, California, Massachusetts, and like-minded states) to change the US Constitution and 'check' the power of Congress? I am an advocate of our Framers' ingenious Constitutional commitment to ensure smaller states like Nevada have a tool to curb federal government overreach. Many GOP colleagues dislike this Constitutional provision, and I honestly don't know why. Feel free to ask my opponents their stand on the issue. Today, I proudly sign the pledge to help rid the US House and US Senate of career politicians. It is very apparent Nevadans need to conserve our valuable water resources. With Lake Mead being overly allocated to outside states and Mexico already, and drought conditions affecting Nevada and the West, we must be good stewards of our water. However, with that being said, I firmly believe that well-informed citizens in our state make good choices and exercise good stewardship of these resources without excessive government coercion and regulation.
The state water engineer's 1293A order was vociferously opposed by Pahrump (Nye County) citizens several years ago. The 5th Judicial District Court actually sided with the citizens. The Nevada Supreme Court however, later sided with the State of Nevada and derailed our citizens' legal challenge. This was not a fair solution to our water woes. Nevada Law clearly states that a resident seeking to drill a domestic well for family/domestic use, is entitled to do so and use no more that 2 acre feet per year. Factually speaking, very few homeowners/landowners come close to using that domestic allocation. The data suggests most Nevadans using domestic well water, do so in a very responsible manner. Yes there is the provision whereby the state engineer can intervene and thereby restrict certain uses, but this sweeping and oppressive order is far too drastic. The unintended consequences of allowing a strangling restriction on folks utilizing their residential, private, and legal right to dig a personal well when no nearby utilities exist, is wrong. Meanwhile, the proposals for industrial solar farms and other commercial projects (which could use adverse amounts of our water resources) experience little-to-no governmental push-back or obvious accountability. Were it not for the many likeminded residents like myself opposing the Rough Hat Nye solar project for instance, they would be well on their way to constructing this potentially hazardous solar field monstrosity. The immense water quantity used for that project would solely benefit a private out of state company and Californians. Much like gun regulation and legislation, excessive water restrictions and encumbrances seemingly victimize law-abiding average citizens. On face value, it is simply not fair. Upon closer inspection, it is equally unfair. The fact that new domestic well applicants (where no explicit earlier water rights exist) need to purchase and relinquish separate 2 acre feet/year water rights is burdensome, short-sighted, and biased. Negative effects of this 1293A order can now be felt in areas such as rural residential real estate affordability and residential rental availability. Combining this with the out of control Biden-fueled inflation, supply chain issues, and rising fuel costs damages Nevada families. If you want to elect someone who will truly advocate for Nevadans' water rights, please support my campaign. We want to celebrate our current supporters and the many more we'll meet on this journey. Meet your Nevada Assembly candidate (who happens to be your friendly, local bail bondsman), enjoy some excellent live music, and enjoy a meal with us! The talented group J&D Music will be performing live!
In these hard times, we need to find encouragement and hope for Nevada's future! Our freedoms are at stake, and our needs are not being fulfilled in Nevada. Please join us because Nevadans deserve strong, conservative leadership. Join us at the Bob Ruud Community Center at the NW corner of Basin and Highway 160 near Petrack Park. Hope to see you there! It's a free event and please bring a neighbor! OK THIS ONE IS KIND OF A NO-BRAINER. When it comes to the media and leadership reaction to Covid, on both the local and national levels, our leaders and press have sorely let us down. When the dust settles a few years from now, and the damage done to folks of all ages is surveyed fully, we are going to wonder how we ever sat back to let all of this happen.
Look I get it...Covid-19 can be very serious, and cases can be brutal. I myself suffered a fairly serious bout of the virus in November of 2020. I have known people of from their 40s until elderly age, pass away with or from the virus. However, acting as if the elites in big business (Bill Gates for instance) and medicine (like Fauci) are competent enough or honest enough to guide us sufficiently is foolish. Even if their convictions were backed by real "science," they should NEVER be in a position to make choices for you or your family. I firmly believe the only time Fauci and even the Surgeon General were honest with the American people, was when they declared in unison--wearing masks day to day, in a broad sense, was not going to be effective. Yet over a year and a half later, here we are staring at mask signs in retail windows, endless PSAs about wearing masks responsibly, and government employees and private employees alike are forced to either go against their bodily autonomy wishes or lose their jobs. Insanity. So yes, the mandates are horrible. I'd also say they're certainly Unconstitutional in Nevada. The legislature has NOT passed a law requiring citizens wear masks...Instead the lawmakers sit on their hands and are largely absent voices in our fight for common sense. You can tell Governor Sisolak knows the essence of a phony, perpetual "state of emergency" where he can enact such tyrannical authority over our individual rights when he never called special sessions for the legislature or used the bully pulpit to advocate for any law. What did he do instead? The cowardly move in 'weaponizing' OSHA and state officials to fine and punish business owners for not enforcing his dictates. Law enforcement know it's an unenforceable 'crime' to not wear a mask. No police department whether it's the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department or Nye County Sheriff's Office would enforce criminalizing the lack of articles of clothing on free people. The logic for mandatory voter IDs is undeniable. If a police officer wants to pull you over, he or she asks for a photo ID. If you want to visit a relative in jail, you need to show a valid ID. If you want to purchase cigarettes or beer in Nevada, you show a valid ID. With known instances, even if fairly rare, of voter fraud occurring across the nation each election cycle, this issue needs to be brought up. The Obama Administration and Justice Department may have you to believe that these laws "restrict" voter participation and place a burden on those who wish to vote. Is that burden or obstacle like a Black Panther militant with a night stick posed outside of polling places? The Justice department was perfectly fine with that, weren't they? How about the stories of dead people or Disney characters "voting" or people voting multiple times under family member or friends' names? Do these instances harm our American electoral system? In my heart of hearts I believe the founders of this nation never envisioned a time where common-sense measures like mandatory voter ID could be fought tooth-and-nail like this. Where is the fight for Nevadans to champion election integrity? If our democratic republic's elections are grossly compromised, how are we different than corrupt nations with phony democracies? Nevada is one of only 17 states with no current voter ID laws. We don't even have lax ones. For instance, Utah and Colorado, neighboring states, have what's known as "non strict" non-photo IDs. We cannot even have our legislature and governor put a law like that on our books. How burdensome is that? Let's ask our legislators to get going and do things that are not stupid. Better yet, let's elect some new ones to take their places. I despise the common core standards as applied to the school districts in the state of Nevada. Just so I cannot be mistaken for my position, I am appalled at them. I'd go so far to say that these "standards" are single-handedly responsible for a metric ton of frustration heaped on the back of your typical student, teacher, and parent. As a parent of a daughter once in the Clark County School District (and one who made it fairly far in mathematics), I can honestly say, my toughest semester of math was my daughter's 2nd grade math curriculum.
In an attempt to "re-learn" math concepts that had already been in place for hundreds of years, I found the "new math" to be literally one of the most tedious, demoralizing endeavors I've ever undertaken. I've worked a lot of terrible jobs, waited at the DMV for hours at a time, had a BB dug out of my chest with only topical anesthetic over the course of an hour, and sat through the entirety of the feature film, Little Nicky. This one took the cake however. After seeing my own daughter's zeal for learning killed by these standards, my wife and I set her on a course of homeschooling, and now we are not going to look back. If I am lucky enough to represent Nevada's 18th Assembly District in Carson City for the 2017 legislative session, I vow to do all that's within my ability to get Nevada to "opt out" of this program. It's not good for my family, and I'm willing to bet it's not good for the vast majority of my constituents. If you disagree, I'd love the opportunity to meet with you, and test my powers of persuasion! In all seriousness, your comments and feedback are greatly appreciated! These are certainly two words I'd rather not hear or see in print. I am 100% convinced that our government in Nevada is wasteful. I'm not talking about just a little overly ambitious with spending. I'm talking blatantly and overtly irresponsible. I understand what it's like to live within your means. I grew up in a working-class family (albeit I always had what I needed for food, shelter, clothing, etc.) and am raising my own now, and we understood then and understand now the word, "budget." We don't spend or use credit on leisure activities, eating out, vacations, and big-ticket items only to scramble at the end of month--frantic about how we're going to pay the mortgage or knock out the electric bill. RESPONSIBLE people budget for the ESSENTIALS first! Why does our federal and state government not believe in that principle? It's pretty basic. In other words, how do we "budget" our state's money so poorly, that every 2 years or so, we are BOMBARDED by calls to action---calls to raise the state sales tax, or a new cigarette tax, or a modified business tax increase, or a commerce tax? We are always GUILTED into these by the power-that-be saying in so many words, "if we don't get more money, our schools will fail, or we won't have enough police officers!" I do not believe this is by accident. The power-brokers enjoy this leverage over Nevadans. For years now, we're told that business are not coming here because our schools are failing or crime is too high, etc. But look at what attracts industry to Nevada----tax incentives! Reprieve from regulations. Faraday did not decide to establish operations here because we jumped from 48th to 47th in public school testing. They came because of the friendly tax and regulation environment. Also, have you ever wondered why our Nevada Constitution has a provision banning a state lottery? Ever thought about getting that changed? I sure have, and electing other like-minded legislators to Carson City just might be what it takes to happen. It is safe to say that the 2nd Amendment is being attacked in America. Sadly, new gun laws and regulations are not the answer. Criminals tend to disobey regulations---hence, their designation, "criminals." What they do is burden law-abiding citizens and lays a disadvantage to good people who wish to not be victimized. Just look at the cities with strict gun laws and regulations (i.e. Washington D.C. and Chicago). Now look at the crime rates. This election season, there is a ballot initiative that favors further regulation between private party sales. Question 1 would require private parties who want to transfer ownership of a firearm, to undergo a background check through a licensed gun dealer at a "reasonable fee." What empirical evidence exists that shows this is the method by which criminals acquire guns anyhow? Without objective evidence, how is this a "common sense" law? As the only GOP Assembly candidate in this district with an "A" rating from the NRA-PVF, I promise to battle against this from becoming the law of the land. On it's face of course, there are exemptions such as family members able to transfer without the check, but let's face it, every single government power grab starts in phases. Wasn't it Obama who said plainly that a single-payer healthcare system was the goal and that we'll get there? When federal income taxes originated, they were to affect only a small minority of wealthy individuals. Look where we are now. It's called grooming. Let's call it what it is. Elect me, and I can fight this predatory regulation from taking root and spawning a widespread "gun grab." This is how it all starts. You have my word, I will vote "NO" on every gun regulating bill I see enter Carson City. |
